Hi everybody

I would like to change icons in a copy of imageres.dll but when I save I get: error code 106 and iconwhorkshop don't want to save it...
Could someone help me?

HHmmm. Icons within a .dll are embedded. I'm not sure it's possible for ICWS to replace them. I'll defer this question to Marc Fou, our resident Icon Expert.

Thanks for your help...

What I do not understand is that when you work on ICWS.

You're right-clicking an icon in the dll, you have the option "to replace the icon "if you use it, it works to replace it but you can't save the file at the end...

Hello,

Are you using Vista or Windows 7? If yes, it may be a problem due to the User Account Control. This system is protecting many sections of the OS including files located in the system folders.

Is your file located in the Windows folder (or sub-folders)? If yes, try to make a copy of this file in a non-secured folder such as your Librarian folder. Then, redo the operation.

You can also start the IconWorkshop application as administrator. This will bypass the UAC protection. To do so, right-click on the IW icon and select "Run As Administrator".

IMPORTANT! Before modifying any system DLL or EXE we strongly recommend that you MAKE A BACKUP of the file. Just in case...

I'm using vista to modifie imageres.dll and shell32.dll copy for Seven, my UAC are disabled, and my work folder is a non-secured folder outside of windows.

I select "Run As Administrator" by the irght-clic on ICWS but the problem is always the same crtl+s or ctrl+maj+s are impossible it says error code 106.

Maybe you can try it on your PC, I made searchs about this error but nothing...
